Clear The Air is a volunteer group, entirely supported by individual membership fees and member donations. Registered as a Society on the 10th of December, 1997, in response to increasing air pollution, we are committed to the introduction and implementation of measures to significantly reduce air pollution in Hong Kong.
Clear The Air was looking for a new website design. They wanted a simple layout that was very easy to navigate. They were also interested in a stronger presence in the search engines, namely on Google and Yahoo.
Their existing website had evolved from a very simple five page site and over the years it grew to over 50 pages. The old design could not handle the amount of content on offer, and was littered with four different navigational menus and three different designs. To find anything on this website was a very difficult task.
We presented Clear The Air with a very basic design which had the capability of expanding to as many pages as they wanted on one navigational menu. We added a second navigation menu on the homepage for items that they wish to highlight. These may be events, promotions or their blogs. This simplistic design offered an ideal code to content ratio, making the content highly relevent to search engines.
We put together all of their content, and arranged it in a way that any one page will recieve a high search engine ranking based around 2-3 keywords per page. After creating a site-map, their website had over 200 pages.
To increase their presence on the web, we suggested and implemented three blogs for them - a news blog, energy blog and tobacco blog. The blogs were designed to look exactly like the website. By keeping the look consistent, we can aid in the ease of navigation throughout the site. These blogs help Clear The Air to update their own content in regards to news items, events and special promotions.
We also helped Clear The Air to setup a Facebook group, which now has over 300 members. This helps Clear The Air to increase numbers to their events and allows them to setup and manage events on their own. Links to the website increase traffic. Their major goal was to increase awareness and teach residents of Hong Kong about what can be done to Clear The Air in Hong Kong. This was a big stepping stone to help them do that.
Clear The Air also wanted to reach their members via eNewsletters. We helped them to setup an account with Campaign Monitor - an easy to use and cheap eNewsletter system, where they send out eNewsletters once to twice a month. We help them with the design, and add their enewsletters to their website each month to boost the value of their content.
Overall, Clear The Air have been very happy with the outcome, and have continued to use SEMTEK for graphic design for their new HK Magazine adverts.
