Definitions

Listed below are some common acronyms and definitions of terms used throughout this blog that may be technical in nature:

SEO  Search Engine Optimization – The practice of optimizing ones website so that search engines such as Google may rank it highly in their natural search engine results. 
 PPC Pay Per Click – Sponsored search results are traditionally listed at the top and right hand side of search engine listings.   
CTR  Click Through Rate – Relating to Pay Per Click, the Click Through Rate is the number of clicks an ad recieves divided by the number of impressions. 
Impressions  Relating to Pay Per Click, the number of impressions are the number of times an ad has been displayed in a search engine, on sponsored pages or on the content network.
 Google AdWords Google AdWords is the Pay Per Click engine that Google uses to display ads on its search engine.
 Yahoo Search Marketing Yahoo Search Marketing is the Pay Per Click engine that Yahoo uses to display ads on its search engine. 
 Clicks Clicks refer to the number of times an ad has been clicked on. 
 SEM Search Engine Marketing is the advertising of a website on a search engine. Search Engine Marketing consists of Pay Per Click (sponsored results) and Search Engine Optimization (natural results). 
 SMM Social Media Marketing is the practice of getting engaged with the community through social media sites such as Facebook or Ning. The main advantages are to generate exposure, opportunity & sales.
